DOMINIC (Assigned to) Elegant flat desk... - Lot 221 - FW Auction
DOMINIC (Assigned to) Elegant flat desk entirely covered with Macassar ebony veneer resting on four sheathed legs finished with gilt bronze shoes. It opens at the waist with two lateral drawers fitted with round gilt bronze lock entries very characteristic of the Maison Dominique. Attributed to the Maison Dominique.circa 1950. Height: 76 cm; Width: 130 cm; Depth: 71 cm Founded in 1922 by two designers, André Domin (1883-1962) and Marcel Genevrière (1885-1967), the "Dominique" decoration house has created numerous pieces of Art Deco style furniture, with clean angles, simple and elegant shapes made of precious woods; the decorations are discreet, often with simple and fine mouldings as shown in the furniture we present. Thanks to the black and white photographic prints of the Maison Dominique preserved in the archives of the Decorative Arts Library, we were able to find some desks with similarities to ours, notably in shape, the use of fine mouldings, the round gilt bronze lock entries and also casing feet finished with high bronze clogs.
