Maison de l'Empereur Napoléon III by CHRISTOFLE... - Lot 128 - FW Auction
Maison de l'Empereur Napoléon III by CHRISTOFLE Paris, Silver-plated SUCRIER, Louis XIV model, standing on a scaled foot with gilded interior, engraved on the obverse and reverse with a rich arabesque and acanthus leaf design forming a medallion with the "Grandes Armes Impériales" engraved on it. Polylobed lid with pinecone fretel. Inscribed with n°321847 corresponding to the years of production 1859-1861 and hallmarks CC for Charles Christofle as well as Christofle in all letters. Our sugar bowl was not one of the large orders placed by Emperor Napoleon III in 1852 for the "Cent-couverts" and in 1866-1867 for the "Impératrice" service at the Tuileries. However, this model is listed in the 1862 catalog under number 1066, despite an earlier production run (1859-1861). 21 x 22 x 17 cm We would like to thank Mrs. Caroline Radenac, Head of Heritage at Christofle, for finding the archives.
