Part of a Chinese hairdressing ornament in... - Lot 15 - FW Auction
Part of a Chinese hairdressing ornament in vermeil, lovely filigree work with plant and floral decoration including prunus flowers (symbol of good omen), peaches (symbol of longevity), a bird (symbol of prosperity and good omen) and a central cabochon in orange glass paste. Probably early work (1644-1911-Qing Dynasty), similar to some of the ornaments exhibited in the "Ors et trésors, 3000 ans d'ornements chinois" exhibition at the Ecole des Arts Joailliers. Bears an inscription in Chinese characters on the back, probably: "leave good fortunes for future generations", meaning: If the family is charitable, and does many good deeds to help others, this family will leave good fortunes for the next generations. Weight: 7.40 g. Dimensions: 6 cm x 5 cm approx. (minor damage, traces of soldering and restoration). The recessed motifs were probably intended to be enhanced with Kingfisher feathers (some remains).
