MINIATURE REPRESENTING A SIKH DIGNITARY. In his palace, a Sikh dignitary, richly adorned, sits on a throne with armrests decorated with lions. He is surrounded by a servant holding a flycatcher, and a courtier carrying a sword and a shield. Margin with floral decoration and calligraphic cartouche. India, probably Punjab. Gouache and paper. Cartouche in the upper margin inscribed: "Shabie-ye mobarak farzand khass-e, Mansour zaman Amir al-Omara Maharaja Dehraj Rajshir Sri, Maharaj-e Rajkan [Narandar] [Sank-e] Mohandar Bahador/ portrait of the son of the victorious of [all] times, the emir of emirs, Maharaja Dehraj Rajshir Sri, Maharaj-e Rajkan [Narandar] [Sank-e] Mohandar Bahador" and in the smallest part the date:"al-marqoum mah Behakan, samat 1615 / made (written) in the month of Behakan 1615". At the bottom the name of the artist: "Amal Fata / made by Fata". Dim : 33 x 28,7 cm (several lacks of pigmentation, good general state of conservation)
