Africa, Congo. Circa 1924-1934. Very nice album "L'Afrique qui disparaît" by the photographer Casimir Zagourski (1886-1944) composed of one hundred and eighty-one photographs. Subjects: portraits, rituals, customs, landscapes, villages, caves, fisherman, pottery, villages, animals and miscellaneous. On the fronts of the visuals, captions, examples: Type of Ecuador, Chief Bateke, Bakamputu, Type of Lusambo, Sankuru - woman in mourning, Kivu - Nyamuragira Volcano, Ituri Types, Pr. Or. - Mangbetu - deformation of the skull, A.E.F. a marabout, A.E.F. population of the bush, A.E.F. Circumcision toilet, A.E.F. - Manufacture of cotton thread, Ivory expedition, Various Congolese hairstyles, etc. On versos of a majority of prints, typed annotations "Africa disappearing! Photogr. C. Zagourski, Leopoldville ... ". Main format 13,9 x 9 cm, three visuals with different formats (29,3 x 19,8, 13,9 x 18,2 and a panoramic 8,8 x 27,3 cm). Inside the book, a printed text of congratulations and thanks written by Dr. R. Verneau (Professor at the Institute of Human Paleontology, Honorary Professor at the Museum of Natural History - Honorary Curator of the Museum of Ethnography - Member of the Academy of Colonial Sciences) on 25 May 1934 in Paris. Album with leather and wood binding with an elephant decoration, size about 41 x 31 cm.
