BERTRAND. GROSBERT (Jacques-François-Louis). 1757-181-. Chief of Brigade of Artillery, born in Algeria, in the service Italy, Spain then in France. Absent from Six and Quintin; commanded the artillery at the siege of El Arich; was sent by Kléber to the Directory at the end of November 1799 to give news of the situation (cf. Memorandum of the Duke of Raguse). Grosbert left numerous military writings including several instructions for the use of heavy artillery on the battlefield, a Description of the Pyrotechnics of the of Battle, a Description of the Pyramids of Guizé, etc. Aut. letter signed to citizen Bertrand in Chateauroux. In Paris, 1 st Germinal year 8 (22 March 1800). 2 pp. two-sheet in-4, address on verso, very nice red wax seal of the Arsenal de Paris, postmark. Certificate of life and conduct of the future general Bertrand, delivered to his father: (...) The Cn Bertrand is an amiable comrade who enjoys the esteem of the army and the affection of his leaders. He has been promoted successively to the ranks of Battalion Battalion and Brigade Commander in his arm. He is in charge (...) of the direction of the fortifications of Kaire (...).
