PARIS, CHEMINEE ROD in the Sèvres taste,... - Lot 64 - FW Auction
PARIS, CHEMINEE ROD in the Sèvres taste, second half of the 19th century PAIR OF COVERED VASES, richly mounted in bronze, in the Louis XVI style: lid with flutes and water leaves, frieze of laurel leaves, detached handles with mascarons and acanthus leaves. The pedestal has the same ornaments and rests on a square base. On a furnace blue background, two painted cartels stand out, on one side of port scenes and on the other, of grouped shells. Multiple gold ornaments. H. 34 cm The quality of the painting of the harbor scenes indicates that it is a reuse of 18th century vases, re-fired for the golds and completed by the bronze mounting.
