Clément Massier (1844-1917) Vase in the form... - Lot 30 - FW Auction
Clément Massier (1844-1917) Vase in the form of a baluster, enamelled ceramic vase red oxblood with gold relief decoration on one side of bamboos and on the other side a constellation of stars of different sizes running on the vase. Gilded and chiselled bronze trim decorated on the neck with bamboos surmounted by palmettes and also on the "chinoisante" openwork bamboo base. The vase also has two gilt bronze handles in the same spirit. Catalogue of Clément Massier's pieces, certainly published at the end of the 19th century (shortly after Clément Massier settled in Golfe-Juan in 1883), offers for sale, pages 22 and 23, number 124, a similar vase with the same bamboo and star decoration (see Massier: l'introduction de la céramique artistique sur la Côte d'Azur, p.119). Clément Massier (1844-1917) but not without recalling the work of Théodore Deck (1823-1891). End of the 19th century. Dimensions: Total height: 54 cm; Diameter: 22 cm. Bibliography: Massier: l'introduction de la céramique artistique sur la Côte d'Azur, (exhibition), Musée Magnelli, Musée de la Céramique, Vallauris and Réunion des Musées Nationaux, Paris, 2000, p.119, number 124.
