Important and exceptional pair of sculptures... - Lot 129 - FW Auction
Important and exceptional pair of sculptures representing a couple of sphinxes and sphinxes "Egyptian style" with the body of a lion, in carved wood, stucco and (in places) polychrome coated canvas, resting on a rectangular plinth. The sphinx has a headdress composed of a twist above the head, falling behind the ears in the shape of large leaves and meeting in a point on the chest, while the sphinx wears a stylized Nemes, the emblematic headdress of the pharaohs usually composed of a pleated and striped cloth of lapis lazuli blue and yellow. Work from the second half of the 19th century. Probably of fairground origin. Wears and lacks. Dimensions : H: 72 x W: 111 x D: 40,5 cm ; H:75 x W: 109,5 x D: 40 cm.
