Icon of Christ the Pantocrator
Tempera on wood, representing Christ in a bust blessing and holding an open Bible. Russia. End of the XIXth century 27 x 22.5 cm.
It is covered with a beautiful silver Oklad, 84 Zolotniks, vermeil and enamel. Decorations in embossed silver with the clothes engraved with braids, the Bible in vermeil and text in navy blue enamel, all on a guilloche background. Beautiful polychrome cloisonné enamel halo, composed of three navy blue enamel letters on a sky blue background, and four spandrels with polychrome scrolls; a frieze of sky blue pearls topped by a frieze of sky blue and dark blue bulbs alternating white and red leaves. Framed with foliated volutes in repoussé, with a cartouche repeating the text of the icon in navy blue enamel and including four spandrels, in appliqué, with polychrome volutes.
