Godefroy Engelmann (1788-1839) The anointing of the coronation of King Charles X. Engraving on cotton. Charles X period. Dim : 60 x 58,5 cm. This large cotton square in grisaille represents the scene of the anointing of Charles X in the cathedral of Reims before his coronation, by Monseigneur de Latil. Borders decorations with in the corners the portraits of the duke of Angoulême, the duke of Berry, the duchess of Angoulême and the duchess of Berry. On the sides, the scepter and the hand of justice surrounded by fleurs-de-lis au naturel. At the top a bas-relief scene representing King Charles X surrounded by allegories of Religion and Industry, figures of the Arts, Music, Agriculture, Army and Navy. Below, two angels holding the Royal Arms of France in a laurel wreath. Silk scarf signed "chez G.D? et Huguenin & Cie, Rue du Gros Chenet N°8 à Paris".
